A big turn for the comic... DUH DUH DUH

Well the comic is cranking along. One of the takes me about 3 hours from start to finish. It'd be fun to finish the comic up before x-mas. But coloring is awhole nother ballpark. If anyone wants to get me a wacom tablet for free please do.

I need to get back to painting soon tho. I hate staying away from the canvas for too long. Its been a week. Hmmmm.

Any feedback so far? Anyone keeping up with the series?

Starting to color them...

After browsing the b log of some profesisonal artists it struck me that I am still not doing nearly enough if I ever want to become a great artist. So I am going to try and update this site everyday, and try to draw/patin for 3 hours a day. I am more telling this on here becasuse I hear that telling your freinds somehting makes you do it.

We'll see how it goes.

Anyways, here are some shots of whats going on now:

HEEB!

Big News. Jusitn Coombs art V3 is getting some good traffic, and I will have the store seciton up ASAP.

I am brainstroming ideas for including a media package with any art that is pruchased that would include some goodies. I will wokrout the logistics on my trip home this december. Shipping form Japan is a non-possibility.

Well I have been a little busy. Actually the bulk of these three was done in one day. It is crazy how much you can get done if you really buckle down. Its all about not looking at www.digg.com or youtube.com. God I love those websites. I also like gonintendo.com because the Wii is going to kick your mother. It's that good.

The two comics are pages 3 and 4 of what is turning out to be a great experiment. I basically drew these in cafes and on a trainride from Satte to Shibuya (about 1 hour 20 minutes).

The painting is part 3 of the series. Wiring. I did a series of drawings in Italy based on the same Motif (check justincoombsart drawing section.) This series does two main things, both practical. First it is part of a cohesive whole that galleries love. And second it is keeping my academic paitnitng standards up to a certain level of abilty (I have given up on the possibility of finding a ude model, so my Charcoal skills are non-existant yet again... such things arent always possible).

I AM ASKING ONE THING :) If you visit the Justin Coombs Art V3 site what are your favorite pieces? Im thinking of selling the cowboy drawings on this blog for like 50$ apiece with shipping/frame and media package. Interested? Or should I make posters of some of my paintings and sell those for like 30$? What do you all want/ or would buy if you have 50-300$ HEEB.

Oh and whaddya guys think of cowboys and aliens so far?

Justin Coombs Art v3 is UP

Almost....

I am wainting on Paypal to send me verificaiton. They need business days. But everything besides the store and cmoics is up. It has been a long wekeend of updating this new stuff and building the site, but it looks much better and is much simpler to navigate.

Plus the store should be exciting as it will give everyone an opportunity to buy some goods. I am looking into making some Giclee Prints (because original paintings are too expensive). Another option I am looking into is publishing some big posters. I dont speak japanese so Im gonna keep my eyes open, and maybe get a good jap speaker to translate some goodness.

Neways. I am working on Page 2 of Cowboys and aliens. It looks better than the first page. I will be updating this comic on my blog and on my comics section.

In addition there should be a new comic popping up there sometime this week. MWAHAHA

neways. Ill keep you posted.

in the meantime here are some random pics. YAY

well I caught a cold. A japanese cold no less.

I am studying for the wicked GRE to hopefully get into a good Gradaute school someday. IT IS A BASTARD.

The posted images are scabo pixelated (form penny-arcade battle royale)
I threw him in street fighter for effect hehehe

Jon Byerley is playing a tour through the US and that is pretty darn cool. He is playing in Chicago tonight. his website is jonathanbyerley.com designed by noneother than myself. Well you may also notice a few links on his site R broken- but not to worry will have them fixed here ASAP so he can get some good publicity.

WELL NEWAYS

The other image was a quickie of a comic idea I had, called cowboys and aliens. I was frustrated with not starting into this thing because I always have the feeling that now isnt the time and that I need to do more preparatory work. Well I said screw it. I will make the darn comic and if I have the energy make it better later- or even re-do it.

I think this is a good outook to have in general. Do what you know you can right now- and worry about the rest later!

HEEEEB (skanoofles)

Working on a new painting. This one was based on a simple line drawing I did of the hand- and I figured I would just make a painting that would be badass. It turned out great, after a lot of frustration and I am still finishing it up. Well heeb and a kabeeb.

Been working towards producing a comic using this cowboy guy, so that is what I am working on currently. I have been painting a bit,and think I will try and make some more in the same style as the cowboy man. Altho maybe more varied in appearance and a little more dynamic on the position side of things.

I threw another adidtion to the scabo saga on Penny Arcade.

SKANOOF

Finsihed the cowboy painting, and have done some work on several comic-style things. Jordan and I are thinkign of doing a cowboy comic, so I will keep everyone posted. Not sure if I mentioned it last time, but there is a new cartoon up on www.fan-boys.net

I will be continuing work on this comic stuff and see if I can get something going.

WERD UP

Thursday, October 05, 2006

Things are coming along well with the cowboy paintintg and some new comic style studies for a possible cowboy comic that Jordan and I might work on.

Another thing is I put a character in the Penny-Arcade battle. He is really just for fun- but a bigger purpose is for some good publicity. If I can link fanboys and jusitncoombsart and put some more stuff in my store maybe I can get things moving a little quicker.

WOOT

WOOT

I am trying to always get more and more art made. It doesn't work very much. Partially the problem si work and friends and life. Stupid stupid life.

One part of making art for me has been diversifying to keep it fresh. So for example:

www.fan-boys.net

if you are on this blog, and haven't been there- please go.

another example is that I apint, and draw cowboys, and then I am also illustrating a little graphic novel. Nothing too major, but another thing to make my ass get into gear.

Anyways- here are some pics of current projects. Please blog it if u dig it- I love ot get feedback.

THANKS

COWBOY CRAZY

Dont know what im going on here but somehting has clicked. In the past I have done three paintings of cowboys and they have been some of my most successfull. In fact I have had offers on all three, and sold one. I am thinking that a re-investigation of this area is needed. So far here are some sketches that have popped up.

Japan is going very well. My students are crazy as ever. They are crazy good at ping pong. I play with them after my classes and basically get rocked and reminded that I am definetaly not Japanese. They are crazy crazy good.

I have been to a lot of juseums here and have just recently re-discovered that a museum is a great way to spend a day. SO all of you out there in TV land shoul def. go to one in your area. its 12 bucks and worth it times over.

HEEB.

Gimme some input if your diggin the new sketching route or have anyhitng else to add. I love the comments!

Some progress, but not enough

I made a little progresson the japan Painting.

I am thinkgin of doing another wire painting, and then a piece in the same style as a disney cartoon...WHY?

I recently visited a museum that was sdhowing art form previous disney films. Some art was form Peter Pan, pinnochi etc. Really neat stuff. It was a sort of inspiraitonal moment, as things like disney movies and such are really the reasons any of us got started with art. Creation and wonderment and the fun in these films is a real important part of my childhood.

So why not make paintings that capture it? I would also like to make a direct comment on the role of Disney in my life, and also how good they are at developing a sense of story in every individual frame. So I will probabvly make the painting replicate the cartoon cell feeling for the characters and any moving objects, and then the backgournds have more detail. Should be interesting I will post some sketches.

For now here is a couple shots form the disney book about the show.
aaaah Peter Pan

Skooch

Blogs are one of those things you must wonder... does anyone care?

Well I suppose that all things have to start small. Here is what I have been up to. The self portrait, and then the wire paitning were done in prior weeks. The girl painting and then the little sketch are products of this week. I will probably be updating on a weekly basis. SKOOB
